Navin Dissanayake The Honorable Governor Sabaragamuwa Province
As the Chief Secretary, I perceived the release of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Health Department's website to cyberspace as a timely step forward. The Government of Sri Lanka allocates a large amount of annual income to education and health as a future investment; “free education and free health”. It is pleasure for me to remind here that the same achievements and level of care achieved by developed countries were achieved by the education and the health sectors of Sri Lanka. For enjoying above achievements, huge financial investments and human resources allocation has been done over a long period of time. The entire people of the country have made great sacrifices for those achievements. I believe that the Department of Health Services would work beyond the duty and reciprocate for the sake of these great people. There is also an opinion in the society whether the cost borne by the people of the country towards the education and health sector has been bifurcated. This means that people are forced to pay twice from their income for education and health. We must be committed to creating an intelligent, educated, healthy and disciplined community in Sri Lanka. It will also lead to the happiness of the country's people who have sacrificed for free education and free health. Digitalization is a new step to add more value to the already tested and proven health system and network in Sri Lanka. This will help to establish a real time Sabaragamuwa Provincial Health related data system with the access to the needy people even in remote and underprivileged communities. The services, human resources, medicines and technologies available in each institution can be accessed within seconds to the people in Sabaragamuwa province by the above system.
Mahinda S Weerasooriya Chief Secretary Sabaragamuwa Province
Health-related websites play a crucial role in the modern healthcare landscape, contributing to efficient healthcare delivery, data management, and patient engagement. The launching of the website for the Provincial Directorate of Sabaragamuwa is a timely intervention to improve the health services in par with the modern development of information technology in the door step of the SMART World. Website provides information about services, facilities, medical staff, and patient resources for individuals seeking healthcare services. Sabaragamuwa province has around 150 primary medical care institutions. The health services available in those institutions can be visualized within seconds through the website when needed. I believe information technology should be developed in the province up to the level of seeking medical advices through telecommunication (Tele-medicine), at least to the people with difficulties in mobilization and an online appointment system for those who seek inpatient health care services. As the Provincial Secretary of Health Services of the Sabaragamuwa Province, I take this opportunity to thank the website development committee involved in developing and maintaining it.
Prabath Udakara Secretary Chief Ministry Sabaragamuwa Province
The world has stepped into an era of “Information Revolution”, where people make strategic decisions based on real time data. In such an environment, digitalization of the provincial data bases and a web page for the Provincial Directorate of Health Services, Sabaragamuwa is timely and needed. The website can be used as a tool for information sharing with the official health and non-health government staff, other stake-holders local and international as well as more than two million population in Sabaragamuwa province. It will alert you regarding urgent health threats, inform day to day health service components of hospitals in Sabaragamuwa Province with prior plan, as well as fulfill the roles of health education and health promotion tools. I take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt appreciation to all my staff involved in developing the website, as the “Website developing and maintaining committee” of the Provincial Directorate of Health Services, Sabaragamuwa. Hope they will upgrade and update it regularly to ensure maximum benefit to the public.
